FNFA Soccer Tournament

August 9

The Farms of Norfolk Football Association Tournament is an annual multicultural community event that uses sport as a platform to promote social inclusion, intercultural understanding, and community connection among International Agricultural Workers and the broader Norfolk community. The one-day tournament features soccer matches between teams sponsored by local farms and composed primarily of International Agricultural Workers representing diverse countries of origin originating form the Americas. The tournament creates a space where migrant workers who often experience social isolation and systemic barriers can build community, celebrate cultural identity, and engage with local residents.  Local food vendors and food trucks offering culturally diverse cuisine, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and supporting local businesses.  There will be family-friendly programming such as face painting and balloon art, encouraging inter-generational participation. Health and wellness information booths delivered by community partners including the Norfolk Family Health Team and the Grand River Community Health Centre, providing accessible information on physical and mental health services. Community resource booths from organizations such as local neighbourhood organizations and our regional Canadian Mental Health Association, increasing awareness of local supports and reducing barriers to services for migrant workers. Through sport, culture, and accessible community services, the tournament strengthens relationships between International Agricultural Workers, local residents, service providers, and employers.
